C3 VACUUM TUBE PREAMPLIFIER

The Musical Technology C-3 is a line control unit which, at a very competitive price, offers sound quality and construction integrity typical of much more expensive preamplifiers. As the stereo version of the Musical Technology C-2, the C-3 retains most of the qualities which have made the C-2 a reference component in its category.

No transistor or FET is used in the audio circuit. Extended bandwidth, high intrinsic linearity, low distortion, and low output impedance have been achieved in a ZERO FEEDBACK circuit. Power supply regulation in the C-3 is effective within a 10% variation of the voltage at the AC mains without serious sonic degradation. Filament supply circuits and plate voltage are highly regulated in order to minimize noise.

To realize the full potential of this design the C-3 uses the very best components available for each application. Resistors, capacitors, vacuum tubes, and controls have been selected on the basis of sonic quality and reliability. Truth to the source and sonic purity have been the goals of this design from the outset. Tape monitor switching and balance control operation have been eliminated and there is only one decoupling capacitor in the entire signal path. Dangerous “on and off” switching transients have been avoided by the use of a muting circuit. Low output impedance and high output (35 Volts RMS) combine to make the C-3 compatible with all power amplifiers or electronic crossovers and allows the use of very long, even highly capacitive, interconnects. The chassis exterior is anodized aluminium.

Countless hours of auditioning by a team of musicians and skilled listeners have helped the designers deliver a very relaxed, natural presentation of music.
